Standards of Practice
Professional Association of Recreational Vehicle Inspectors (PARVI)
1. Introduction
For RV inspectors and industry affiliates. Membership in PARVI is voluntary, and its members are dedicated to promoting excellence in RV inspections while continually improving the quality of services provided to the public.
The use of the PARVI name and logo is restricted to members in good standing, who may incorporate them into their business promotions and advertising. The designation of Certified RV Inspector is reserved exclusively for individuals who have met the rigorous requirements and testing standards set by PARVI and maintain an active status within the association.
This document establishes the professional Standards of Practice for PARVI-certified inspectors, ensuring thorough, objective, and high-quality RV inspections.
2. Purpose, Scope, and General Statements
2.1 Purpose
The purpose of these Standards of Practice is to establish a uniform standard for RV inspectors, ensuring objective assessments of recreational vehicles and their components.
2.2 Scope
These Standards define the systems and components included in a comprehensive RV inspection.
2.3 Applicability
The Standards apply to both motorized and towable RVs as defined by the RV Industry Association (RVIA).
2.4 Inspection Process
Inspections cover only those areas, components, and systems that are readily accessible and visible. The evaluation determines whether the components function as intended at the time of inspection, without assessing their life expectancy.
2.5 Purpose of RV Inspections
The primary goal of an RV inspection is to identify visible and operational defects that may adversely impact the function or integrity of the vehicle's components and systems.
2.6 Non-Exhaustive Nature
RV inspections under these Standards are primarily visual, relying on the inspector’s judgment, education, and experience. They are not intended to be technically exhaustive assessments.
2.7 Timeframe
Inspections shall be performed within a single calendar day in compliance with the provisions of the PARVI Standards of Practice.
2.8 Compliance with Regulations
These Standards do not serve as compliance inspections for any government codes, manufacturer guidelines, or regulatory requirements. If a local statute or ordinance conflicts with these Standards, the inspector is relieved from adhering to the conflicting provision.
2.9 No Warranty or Guarantee
RV inspections conducted under these Standards do not constitute an expressed or implied warranty, guarantee, or assurance of adequacy, performance, or longevity of any RV, its components, or systems.
2.10 Inspection Report
Only those items specifically listed in the RV Inspection Report are included in the inspector’s evaluation.
2.11 Uninspected Components
The inspector must document and disclose any system or component included in the Standards of Practice that was present at the time of inspection but was not inspected, along with the reason for its exclusion.
3. General Limitations and Exclusions
3.1 Accessibility Constraints
Inspections exclude items that are concealed or not readily accessible. Inspectors are not required to move furniture, personal belongings, or stored items, nor should they dismantle or damage interior walls, ceilings, or flooring.
3.2 Damage Assessments
Inspectors may identify visible damage caused by insects or water; however, a comprehensive assessment of structural damage is beyond the scope of a standard RV inspection.
3.3 Indoor Air Quality Exclusion
The determination of indoor air quality—including odors, toxicity, waste products, or any potential health hazards—is excluded from these Standards.
3.4 Scope of Inspection Report
The RV inspection report is based solely on visual observations of the RV’s condition at the time of inspection and should not be interpreted as a guarantee, warranty, or insurance policy. Inspectors are not responsible for any future repairs or replacements.
3.5 Safety Considerations
Inspectors are not required to enter premises or inspect components that pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
3.6 Inspection Scope
Certified PARVI Inspectors will inspect and report on the following RV components and conditions. Any additional items to be inspected must be agreed upon between the client and the inspector.
